Adoption Process

1. Apply to Adopt

If you are interested in adopting, please start by submitting an application to allow us to get to know you.

2. SCHEDULE A CALL

We will contact you with 2-5 days to schedule an initial call. The purpose of the call is for you to get to know our organization, and for our organization to get to know you. Plan for 45 minutes for the call.

If you have submitted your app, and have NOT heard from us within 5 days, feel free to pester us at rescue@operationfavor.org

3. Confirmation Email

If we think you and your family will be a good match for one of our dogs, we will email you within 24 hours to confirm whether you want us to take your application to the next step. This step also gives you 24 hours to chat with your family to make sure every one is on board for bringing a puppy or dog into the house.

Please be mindful that we are volunteer based, so be sure you are ready to pursue this dog before we use our volunteer’s time for reference checks, landlord checks, and house visits.

4. Reference CheckS

If you have decided to continue with our process, our volunteers will call your references, vet (if applicable), and landlord (if applicable). Be sure to let your references, vet, and landlord know that Operation FAVOR will be calling.

5. House Visit

We will schedule a house visit in person or via Facetime to check that the home and surrounding area is a safe place for a dog. Please keep in mind, we are not judging you on cleanliness, but on whether your home is a safe environment for a puppy or dog.

6. Foster Chat/Meet and Greet

If the dog is in the South, the next step is to chat with the foster family who has been caring for the dog to ensure the dog is a good fit with you and your family. We have found Facebook Messenger to be a great tool for this communication, so you can ask questions as they arise, get updated photos and videos, etc... Our foster families are also happy to chat over the phone or via text message.

If the dog is already in New England, we can schedule a time for you to meet the dog at or near the foster family’s home.

If everyone feels like the dog and family is a good match, we will confirm that you are the matched family for the dog. We won’t hesitate to tell you we think another dog is a better match for you, or another family is a better fit.

7. Guides

Once you are matched to a dog, we will send you all our guides which include what to buy for your puppy, what they are eating, a typical puppy schedule, training tips, training recommendations, etc…

8. Puppy Pick Up

If the dog is already in New England, we’ll schedule a time for you to pick up the dog from the foster family. If the dog is still in Alabama, the dog will come up via our USDA licensed transport company, and we will figure out pick up logistics based on the requirements of the state you reside in.

9. Foster-to-Adopt

We want to make sure it works for everyone! Puppy adopters have a 7 day trial period and adult dog adopters have a 14 day trial period, to ensure the dog is a good match for our household before committing to adoption! If, for whatever reason, it does not work out, please be mindful that it may take us a few days to find a volunteer to open their home to the dog.

10. make it permanent

We have a few final steps once you confirm that the dog is there to stay!

Pay: Pay the fee of $700 via Paypal or credit card.
Sign a Contract: We like to write a few things down to make sure everyone involved is on the same page regarding the expectations of our organization and responsibilities of owning a pet.
Microchip Registration: We will transfer the microchip registration to you.
